Our Young 3's Preschool Program

Our classroom is designed to encourage a child to creatively learn and play. The room is arranged into distinct learning areas. Because we know that not all children learn in the same manner, we will be helping your child discover his or her own learning avenues by opening up the world of learning using the five senses.

Program Highlights

Circle Time
This is the time the children gather together forgroup teaching. This fosters a sense of community in the class. Bible stories and songs are all shared at this time. The weekly topic is discussed as well as shapes and colors. During calendar time we focus on the months, days and seasons. Being a contributing member of the group provides each child with a sense of security and gives him or her the opportunity for social interaction.

Zoo-phonics
This program uses animals to teach the shapes and sounds of letters. The letter sounds are taught before letter names and lower case letters are taught before upper case letters. The alphabet is taught sequentially from “a – z” and short vowels are taught before long vowels. It uses music, movement and special signals to help the children learn.

Math
Children learn to recognize numbers 1-20, shape identification, and how to finish a pattern. Many of these skills will involve hands-on activities. We will also work on money identification.

Science
Studies include weather, seasons, ocean animals, arctic animals, dinosaurs, farm animals, insects, plants, and the five senses.

Bible
God’s Word is taught through Bible Stories, songs and verse memorization.

Spanish
Our class has a Spanish teacher who is with us all day. Please read our brochure regarding our “Spanish Immersion Program”.

Reading Center
This is an area that provides another opportunity for the children to explore a variety of books in addition to the ones we read in class.

Dramatic Play
It is scientifically proven that the more imaginative a child is, the better their problem solving skills will be. The dramatic play area allows the children to play dress up and create their own fantasies.

Arts & Crafts
Crafts are great for teaching children how to listen and follow directions to obtain a certain result. We use a wide variety of materials for arts and crafts activities. A true art experience is a child’s own masterpiece when he or she is allowed to be creative.

Sensory Table
The sensory table is used to stimulate and develop thinking, creative play, social interaction, fine motor development and language.

Outside Play
Outside play and fresh air are important for each
child’s growth and development. We go outside
every day, weather permitting.

Nap Time
Sleep is an important part of a child’s day. Each child will be assigned a mat with a sheet that we provide. A blanket and even a special stuffed toy may be brought from home. Instrumental music is played during this time.

Toys
The toys in the room are age appropriate and are
chosen carefully to be educational as well as fun. Toys are thoroughly washed every day after use.

Food
We serve breakfast, a morning snack, lunch and anafternoon snack. We are a part of the Michigan Food Program which monitors us to ensure we provide balanced, nutritious meals. We send menus home one week in advance so you know what is being served each day. We are a peanut free zone.
