Program Highlights
Circle Time
This is the time the children gather together for group teaching. This fosters a sense of community in the class. We discuss the weekly topic, sing songs, and share Bible stories. During calendar time we focus on the months, days and seasons. Being a contributing member of the group provides each child with a sense of security and gives him or her the opportunity for social interaction.
Zoo-phonics
This program uses animals to teach the shapes and
sounds of letters. The letter sounds are taught before letter names and lowercase letters are taught before uppercase letters. The alphabet is taught sequentially from “a – z” and
short vowels are taught before long vowels. This program uses music, movement and special signals to help the children learn.
Math
We learn about numbers, money, time, addition and subtraction, sequencing, and spatial concepts using lots of hands-on activities.
Science
Studies include flowers, insects, oceans, hibernation,
nocturnal animals and “all about me”.
Bible
God’s Word is taught through Bible stories, songs and verse memorization. Our class studies basic heroes of the faith including David, Daniel, Esther, and Moses.
Spanish
Our class has a Spanish teacher who is with us all day. Please read our brochure regarding our “Spanish Immersion Program”. |

Reading
A child’s interest in print leads to an increased interest in writing and reading. Signs, charts and graphs are used throughout the room to capture the interest of the child. A child’s ability to read is the cornerstone for all subjects. A special reading area is provided for the children to explore reading on their own.
Dramatic Play
It is scientifically proven that the more imaginative a child is, the better their problem solving skills will be. The dramatic play area allows the children to play dress up and create their own fantasies.
Arts & Crafts
Crafts are great for teaching children how to listen and follow directions to obtain a certain result. We use a wide variety of materials for arts and crafts. A true art experience is a child’s own masterpiece when he or she is allowed to be creative.
Outside Play
Outside play and fresh air are important for each child’s growth and development. We go outside every day,
weather permitting.
Organized Free Play
During this time the teacher directs the students to
pick from one of three activities. Giving the children options allows the teacher to observe the child’s decision making process and how they interact with others.
Chapel
Each Friday morning the class will be attending chapel
at Freedom Christian School. If you would like your child to attend, there is no extra charge for coming early. Please have your child here by 8:10 a.m. A teacher will remain in the room for those who do not wish to attend or have a later arrival time. Chapel ends around 9:00 a.m.
Food
We serve breakfast, a morning snack, lunch and an afternoon snack. We are a part of the Michigan Food Program which monitors us to ensure we provide balanced, nutritious meals. We send menus home one week in advance so you know what is being served each day. We are a peanut free zone. |
