OUR TEACHERS

Our FELC staff members are here because they are caring and committed to the well being of children. This is a job with a greater purpose. Each teacher brings his or her own unique teaching style to the environment. All teachers are CPR certified and trained in First Aid. They also enhance their knowledge by continuing to learn and educate themselves in child development. This is done through classes, seminars and reading.

TUITION
Tuition is to be paid in full on Monday of each week. If your child is not at FELC on Monday, then tuition is due on the first day he or she attends.

If one of your scheduled days falls on a day we are closed, tuition charges still apply.  It is not possible to change your schedule to avoid paying for the holiday.  Additional days scheduled are an additional cost.  Families with part-time schedules must maintain the same number of days per week as stated in their contract.

Payments must be made by cash, check or online.  Please bring cash payments in an envelope with the family name and amount on the front.  A late fee of $12.00 is added to the tuition bill each week the tuition is not paid in full.  There will be a $25.00 charge on all NSF checks that are returned.  Keep in mind that payment is required for all days your child is registered, whether present or not.

REGISTRATION
There is a registration fee of $50.00 for the first child and $25.00 for every additional child.  Prior to enrollment at FELC, you will need to have the following completely filled out and handed into the office--

Registration Form                        Tuition Contract                        Immunization/Physical Forms
Registration fee paid                    Emergency Card

WITHDRAWAL POLICY
In the event that you decide to withdraw your child, two weeks written notice is necessary in order to make a smooth transition for parent, child and FELC.

VACATIONS
You will receive a vacation credit after attending FELC for a full calendar year from your start date.  This credit is to be used within one consecutive week. The credit will be equal to your regularly scheduled days of care.  For example, if you come only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday then only those days will be credited as vacation days. Vacation days cannot be carried over into the following year. A request must be made in writing to the director at least two weeks in advance, so we may plan and schedule accordingly.  The credit does not apply to preschool only children or children whose parents are teachers who take the summer off.

ENVIRONMENT
One’s environment is a great force in how a person behaves and feels.  The shape of the room, how the space is divided up, the equipment, the temperature, colors and décor all affect how children feel.  We want the way we decorate our walls to stimulate thinking and be a showcase of your child’s work.

Each toy in the classroom has been placed purposefully to be used as a learning tool.  We believe the environment should support the child’s development by offering interactive experiences that are challenging and safe for their age group.  We believe we have achieved this by accommodating a variety of age appropriate activities.

IDENTIFICATION
You may be asked to show your ID if a member of our staff does not recognize you.  Please do not take offense; this is just a precautionary step to ensure the safety and protection of your child. Your name will then be matched to the child’s identification card.

DAYS FELC IS CLOSED

New Year’s Day             Memorial Day                          4th of July                                Labor Day
Thanksgiving Day         Day after Thanksgiving            Christmas Eve @ 3 pm             Christmas Day

IMPORTANT PEOPLE
You are welcome to make unannounced visits at any time.  Grandparents and guardians are welcome as well. They are an integral part of your child’s development and we would not want to exclude them in any way. Please make sure all such people are listed on your child’s emergency card.

LOYALTY CLAUSE
While we encourage our families to use our teachers for evening and weekend babysitting, we do have an established policy that states that the FELC teachers may not quit their positions here in order to provide private care.  We also ask that the childcare not interfere with the regular working hours of our employees.

MEDICATIONS
If your child needs any medication (Tylenol, Chap Stick and Sunscreen) while he or she is at the center, a medical form must be filled out prior to dispensing the medicine.  Because of this, you may want to fill out a form and bring in Tylenol to have on hand at the center.  All medicine will be kept locked up in the office medicine cabinet out of the reach of children.  We always call and ask before we give your child medicine.  When your child receives medication, a form will be filled out by us stating the time and dosage your child received.

DISCIPLINE
It is our policy to never spank or strike a child. Our philosophy is to reward positive behavior in the hope that the child will want to be obedient.  If a disobedient act continues after being verbally warned, the child may be given a time out.  When this happens, the child will be walked to the chair and the reason he or she is in time out will be discussed.  He or she will sit in the chair for 3 minutes.  When the time has passed, the teacher will once again talk with the child and encourage him or her to make better choices.

IMMUNIZATIONS and PHYSICALS
Immunizations and physicals are required for all children at FELC.  Please have your file updated on each trip to your pediatrician.  This allows FELC to maintain compliance with the Health Department regulations.  Forms may be picked up in the office.

MEDICAL EMERGENCIES
In the event of an emergency, you will be notified immediately.  Please make sure that all information on the emergency card is current so that we can contact you if necessary.  If you need to update your emergency card or add the name of a person to whom your child can be released, please inform the office.

SICK POLICY
If your child becomes ill at home, please call and let us know that your child will be absent.  If your child becomes ill at the center we will call you immediately.  We consider an illness to be when a child is running a temperature over 101, throwing up, or showing signs of sickness that gives us concern.  We want what is best for your child, so a phone call will be made to you whenever there is concern about your child’s health.  We understand that children get colds and many have allergies. We would ask that you not send your child to the center knowing he or she is sick.  We want to do our best not to spread any sickness to the other children at the center.

WEATHER EMERGENCIES
FELC, unless extreme circumstances arise, will not close due to bad weather.  In case of a tornado watch, the children will continue on with regularly scheduled activities indoors.  We will listen to a weather radio station that gives updates every 10-15 minutes.  If a tornado warning should occur while the children are present, children and teachers will take shelter in the designated areas.  During this time parents may pick up their children if they so desire. We will hold occasional tornado drills during the tornado season.

Fire drills will also be done periodically.  We will explain to the children what they are and why they are important.  A commercial fire alarm is used in the main lobby of FELC.
